Events Overview
Upcoming Events:
Workshop on Data-Driven Health & Wellbeing in the Built Environment Amidst Climate Change: Aligning Future R&D Efforts
This NSF-funded workshop will be held at the University at Albany, Albany, NY, on July 18 and 19, 2024. Participants will discuss potentially impactful research topics cutting across climate change and extreme events, built environment design and engineering, and built environment exposome, particularly the role of data-driven technology in this context. Specifically, the workshop will focus on supporting the development of advanced data analytics for decoding the impact of extreme heat events at all levels. The workshop will align future R&D efforts on the specific topic of data-driven well-being in the built environment in a changing climate.
The 3rd Pacific Rim Thermal Engineering Conference
The 3rd Pacific Rim Thermal Engineering Conference will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii between December 15 – 19, 2024. Details on the conference and publication requirements can be found here.
The conference is jointly organized by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME), and the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE).
Past Events:
IERS Center Summer Workshop 2024
On May 25, 2024, the Center for Integrated Modeling for Energy, Resiliency and Sustainability at Cleveland State University hosted a summer workshop for teachers themed “How to Prepare K-12 Students for a Pathway to Modeling and Simulation Skills.”
9th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference
The 9th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference organized by ASTFE will be held at Oregon State University between April 21 – 24, 2024. Details on the conference can be found here.
Students from the third cohort of the Leadership Program in Built Environment Sustainability (CLDBES) will be there to present their projects in a poster session. For more information on the program, click here.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Leadership Program in Built Environment Sustainability (CLDBES)
Applications for Year Three of Center Leadership Development in Built Environment Sustainability (CLDBES) program are now open. You must be a graduate student with U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident to apply. For more information click here.
Students from the second cohort presented their research at the 8th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference organized by ASTFE. Their presentation and projects were evaluated through a unique “Sustainability Tank” alike format by the ASTFE professionals. This project explores an open organization model, which combines the strength of industry professionals and academia — ultimately maximizing student research possibilities and creates a strong foundation for industry networking for future professional transition post-graduation. A diverse set of stakeholders in this project allows for all aspects of the socioeconomic population to participate, and potentially encourage underrepresented populations to get involved.
- Student presenters and judges at TFEC 2023 – From L-R: Dr. Yong Tao, Thomas Firsich, Zachary Colligan, Richard Kimball, Vishal Muralidharan, Amanda Wojtasiak, Dr. Tracey Rizzuto, Dr. Tyree Mitchell, Dr. Yimin Zhu, Dr. Vish Prasad.
